Bangladesh – May 12, 2025 — As part of an ongoing reform process, Bhikitia announces that its governing body, formerly known as the Bhikitia Council, has been officially renamed to the Bhikitia Authority. The change reflects a broader shift in responsibilities and a stronger emphasis on structured governance, accountability, and leadership.
The rebranding comes during a transformative period for Bhikitia, following a period of slowed growth since early 2025. Criticisms from external communities, including public comments by a Bengali Wikipedia administrator in late 2024 referring to Bhikitia as a “fake website,” have drawn attention to the platform’s governance and credibility. These claims were firmly rejected by Bhikitia’s leadership, emphasizing its independence and ethical commitment.
“The name change to ‘Bhikitia Authority’ symbolizes a more formal and empowered structure to guide Bhikitia into its next phase,” said a representative. “We’re strengthening oversight, improving community collaboration, and redefining our strategic roadmap.”
The Bhikitia Authority assures the public and contributors that it will remain transparent, inclusive, and dedicated to the platform’s founding mission of building a multilingual, open-access encyclopedia for all.
